OLTL's Catherine Hickland puts out the welcome mat at her New York City store

Catherine Hickland's (Lindsay, One Life to Live) makeup line, Cat Cosmetics, has a new scratching post on New York's swanky Madison Avenue.

"It's a place wher eyou come to relax to buy makeup, " explains Hickland of the cozy Santa Fe adobe-style studio.  "There's natural light, a water wall, nice music."

Not exactly department store ambience.  "I designed this not to feel like a store where you're bothered and insulted by aggressive sales people, but like you're walking into a living room to shop in peace, " asserts Hickland, who also included people who aren't customers in her plans.  "The leather chairs are also for the boyfriends who are sick and tired of shopping with their girlfriends, " she says with a smile.

Hickland's store takes its cue from the intimate nature of her company.  "My line is really small, and I want to keep it that way, " she explains, "I just have exactly what people need, and it works for all types of women, so you can't go wrong.  I'm giving people the highest quality makeup at a price that is less than what you're going to find at the department stores."

Hickland will hold 45-minute classes the first Saturday of every month for eight women at a time, with the $75 charge applicable to purchases.  "We all sit at the table and put on our makeup together, so you learn how to use it, " she previews.  "You walk out of here with your knowledge and your product."

The Cat Cosmetics studio is located at 1045 Madison Ave., between 79th and 80th Street.  Reservations are required for classes or consultations.  For more information, call (212) 535-3085, or visit www.catcosmetics.com.
